  13. 1.DISCONNECT THE POWER CORD AND ANTENNA COAX FROM TRANSCIEVER
  14.  
  15. 2.REMOVE THE TOP COVER (2 SCREWS)
  16.  
  17. 3.LOCATE A GREEN JUMPER WIRE LABELED W2
  18.  
  19. 4.CUT THE GREEN WIRE IN HALF AND INSULTATE  BOTH ENDS
  20.  
  21. 5.INSTALL THE TOP COVER AND RECONNECT THE POWER CORD AND ANTENNA
  22.  
  23. 6.RESET THE MICROPROCESSOR BY HOLDING THE MR KEY DEPRESSED AS POWER IS TURNED ON
  24.  
  25. 7.MODIFICATION IS COMPLETED

  29. The modulation that is set on the TM-261A from the factory isn't always up
  30. to snuff. After having to repeat myself for about the
  31. 50th time in a month, I decide it was time to "turn it up".
  32.  
  33. 1) Open the top of radio by removing to 2 screws and pulling up from
  34. the back of the lid.
  35.  
  36. 2) Find VR3 and adjust clockwise until desired audio level is reached.
  37. (Mine is set to about > up)
  38.  
  39. 3) Put the lid back on and stop repeating yourself.

  52. Subject: TM-261A CLONING FEATURE

  55. This modification is provided as is and is subject to change
  56. without notice.  Kenwood Service Corporation makes no warrant

  58. but no limited to, the implied warranties of merchantability and

  61. in conjunction with the furnishing, performance, or use of this 
  62. modification procedure.

  64. The TM-261A is equipped with a wireless cloning feature.  This 
  65. allows the memory channel data of one TM-261A to be copied to 
  66. other similarly equipped TM-261A transceivers.  Wireless cloning 
  67. makes special event frequency coordination a much easier 
  68. task to manage.  The procedure for cloning is as follows:
  69.  
  70. PROCEDURE:
  71.  
  72. 1. Designate one TM-261A as the Master transceiver and program 
  73. it with all the pertinent memory channel data.
  74.  
  75. 2. Select a common simplex frequency for both the Master and Slave 
  76. transceivers.
  77.  
  78. 3. Turn off all transceivers.
  79.  
  80. 4. Turn on all transceivers while holding the [MHz] and [Tone] keys
  81. depressed.  All units should now display the word CLONE.
  82.  
  83. 5. Connect the Master transceiver to a 50 ohm load and connect 
  84. the Slave transceivers to their appropriate antenna.
  85.  
  86. 6. Momentarily press the microphone PTT switch on the Master 
  87. transceiver.  The Master transceiver will begin transmitting 
  88. a series of DTMF signals to the Slave transceivers which will 
  89. reprogram their memory channels and the data contained in the 
  90. Master transceiver.

  92. 7. When the data transfer is successfully completed, all 
  93. transceivers will display the word END.  Should there be a break 
  94. in reception during data transfer, the Slave transceivers  
  95. will display ERR.  If this occurs, simply repeat the steps 
  96. listed above.

  98. 8. Turn all transceivers off and then back on to return to 
  99. the normal operating mode.

  101. NOTES:
  102.  
  103. 1. Master and Slave transceivers must have the same 
  104. frequency configurations such as all must be stock or all 
  105. must be modified for MAR/CAP.
  106.  
  107. 2. Cloning from a TM-261A to a different model transceivers 
  108. is not possible.

  110. 3. Transmit power output automatically goes low during cloning.
